Smoking cigars have been a favourite pastime since who knows when. Rolling cigars is also becoming one. Many different people get involved in this kind of hobby such as tobacco growers, cigar lovers, or those who are just too curious. Rolling a cigar is actually fun-not as fun as smoking it, but definitely just as interesting. This is not something that you can master overnight. This is something that you have to do regularly in your free time. So if you want to start learning how to roll cigars by hand, here is the procedure for doing it properly
- Get some tobacco leaves. These will be the fillers for your cigars. Choose tobacco leaves that you know have been grown in optimal conditions. Good quality tobacco leaves will give you good quality cigars. You can get tobacco leaves from tobacco farms or from someone who is into the same hobby.
- Cut or shred these tobacco leaves using scissors or a shredder. Leave them for a moment and start making the tobacco binder.
- In choosing leaves for your binder, make sure that they are strong and thick and will not be easily torn apart. You can use Havana leaves for your binder because they possess these qualities. Remove the large vein at the center of the leaf. Moisten the binder leaf and do not let it dry to prevent it from cracking while you are handling it. Havana leaves are relatively large enough for rolling cigars but if one leaf is not enough, you can use a couple of them.
- Prepare your wrapper leaves. Wrapper leaves is different from the binder leaves because wrappers act as the outer covering of the tobacco cigars while binders hold the tobacco leaves together to prevent them from scattering.
- Choose thin leaves for your wrappers. Lay them out on a clean damp piece of cloth and spray the leaves with water to prevent them from drying out.
- You should also make homemade glue. It is very important not to use any kind soft glue because it might affect the aroma and flavour of your cigar. You can cook your own glue at home. All you need is a quarter teaspoon of flour and 2 or 3 tablespoon of water. Put your mixture in the microwave for only 15 seconds. Take out the mixture from the microwave and mix it using a stirring rod or a small spoon. Put it inside the microwave again. Do this repeatedly for several times until you reached the consistency of a thin paste. After finishing this procedure, let the mixture cool and thicken in a safe and dry place.
- Spread your binder leaf on a clean dry space and place the tobacco leaves that you have cut or shredded on the binder leaf. Roll the binder leaf and hold the edges together by putting glue on them. Remove those parts that you will not need by cutting them off.
- You can now use the wrapper to cover your rolled-up tobacco leaves. keep the veins of the wrapper leaves in the inside part of the cigar. You have to make your cigar feel and look as smooth as possible. Glue along the edges to keep it intact.
- Your cigar is now finished. You can now keep it in your humidor to retain the flavour and to keep it damp to enjoy that freshness of tobacco cigars.
